Żeń-szeń

Żeń–szeń (Panax ginseng C.A. Mey) nazywany ginsengiem, jest rośliną, która pochodzi z Chin. Występuje on dziko w północno-wschodnich Chinach, na północy Półwyspu Koreańskiego oraz w Japonii. Surowcem leczniczym tej rośliny są korzenie, które cenione były już w lecznictwie chińskim 4000 lat temu. Uprawa rośliny jest trudna ze względu na jej wymagania, ponieważ lubi ona gleby żyzne, próchniczne, ale przepuszczalne o odczynie lekko kwaśnym. W korzeniu zawarte są unikalne, spotykane tylko u żeń-szenia substancje czynne czyli ginsenozydy (panaxozydy).
